In the early hours of September 23, 2025, a devastating crash on Interstate 96 in Novi left two people dead and caused major traffic delays in Oakland County. The Novi Police Department reported that the accident occurred around 2:15 AM when Neena Wang, 30, from California, pulled her Acura to the side of the road due to what appeared to be a tire or mechanical issue.
While she was stopped, her vehicle was struck by a Kia Soul driven by Sylvette Campbell, 57, of Westland. Unfortunately, both cars burst into flames, and neither driver was able to escape. The two died after tragic crash in Novi.
The crash blocked all eastbound lanes of I-96 from Beck Road (Exit 160) until the highway reopened shortly before 9 AM. An additional accident occurred around 7:15 AM on the same stretch of road, complicating the situation further. Drivers also faced hazardous conditions due to dense fog, which reduced visibility to a quarter-mile in some areas. The Michigan State Police advised motorists to slow down and increase their following distance during these conditions.
