In a tragic accident early Monday morning, two pedestrians were seriously injured while crossing Airport Road in Jackson County, Michigan. This unfortunate event occurred around 6:45 a.m. near the intersection of Airport Road and Wayland Drive.
According to reports, a northbound vehicle struck a 33-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman as they were attempting to cross the road. Both individuals were on their way to work when the collision took place. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene, with the man being airlifted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and the woman transported by ambulance to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. Fortunately, the driver of the vehicle and a witness reported that the vehicle had a green light at the time of the accident. Indicating that visibility and the pedestrians’ actions may have played a role in the incident.
Initial investigations reveal that the pedestrians may have entered the roadway against the traffic signal, and while speed was not deemed a factor, the darkness and limited visibility could have contributed to the Airport Road Pedestrian accident. The Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety is actively investigating the incident and encourages anyone with additional information to come forward.
