On the morning of July 23, 2025, a tragic three-vehicle collision occurred on westbound I-96 at Kensington Road in Brighton Township, leaving one person dead and another injured.
According to reports, the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. Police reported that a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling westbound at high speed when it collided with another vehicle. The collision caused both vehicles to lose control and become part of a chain reaction involving a third car. The Chevrolet ultimately overturned and struck a parked construction trailer.
The 19-year-old driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual sustained minor injuries in the collision. Investigators are working to determine the exact circumstances of the crash. While speeding is believed to be a significant factor, it is unclear at this time if alcohol or drugs played a role in the accident.
As a result of the crash, all westbound lanes of I-96 at Kensington Road were closed for several hours, causing heavy traffic backups in the area.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the devastating consequences accidents can have on individuals, families, and communities.
