City officials say that they instructed the family to stay in the vehicle until crews from DTE Energy arrived and removed the downed wires roughly 20 minutes later. After the power lines were taken away, firefighters and paramedics from the Farmington Hills Fire Department checked the mother and children.
Though shaken, neither the mother nor the children sustained serious injuries. Authorities also noted that the crash caused disruptions in local communications infrastructure, including damage to fiber or communication lines that impacted the nearby school district.
The crash remains under investigation by the local police department and utility crews are reviewing the power-line damage and response.
