A tragic accident on Tuesday night in Eaton County has resulted in the death of a 50-year-old man from Lansing. The incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Mount Hope Highway and Muliken Road in Roxand Township. According to preliminary reports from the Michigan State Police, a 27-year-old man from Fowler was driving a silver Pontiac Vibe northbound on Muliken Road when a black Chevrolet Malibu, operated by a 42-year-old Lansing man, failed to stop at a stop sign. The Pontiac hit the Malibu on the passenger side, causing both vehicles to come to rest in a nearby cornfield.
The front-seat passenger of the Malibu, the 50-year-old victim, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Malibu sustained multiple injuries and is currently in stable condition at Sparrow Hospital, while the Pontiac driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Authorities have indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with alcohol suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash.
