Romulus Man Hospitalized After Rollover Crash on Lodge Freeway Near I-94
A single-vehicle rollover crash on the southbound Lodge Freeway near the ramp to westbound Interstate 94 left a 26-year-old Romulus man hospitalized Sunday morning. FOX 2 Detroit
The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m., when the driver’s Chevy Suburban missed the ramp, traveled up a grassy embankment, struck a tree, and overturned. Troopers from the Michigan State Police arrived to find the driver trapped and briefly unconscious with a faint pulse. Detroit firefighters extricated the driver and transported him to a local hospital.
Officials noted there appeared to be no signs of braking, and the crash may have occurred hours earlier before becoming visible after sunrise. It is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing. The freeway and ramp were closed during the investigation and debris removal.
Accidents involving rollover vehicles–especially those missing exits or ramps–can result in serious injury due to speed, vehicle instability, and delayed extrication. Drivers on high-speed ramps such as the Lodge Freeway are reminded to stay alert, reduce speed for any unexpected curves or exits, and allow extra time for reaction.
