Kalamazoo Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash in Ada Township
A single vehicle crash in Ada Township early Tuesday morning left a 23-year-old Kalamazoo man dead after his car continued through an intersection on Vergennes Street SE and struck a concrete barrier. According to investigators, the driver was traveling westbound on Vergennes Street near Pettis Avenue SE when the vehicle went straight through the intersection and into a business parking lot before colliding with the barrier. Authorities believe alcohol may have played a role in the crash, though the investigation is ongoing.
The roadway was closed during the early morning hours while deputies reviewed evidence, documented the crash site, and worked to determine whether impairment, speed, road conditions, or mechanical failure contributed to the single vehicle crash in Ada Township. No other vehicles or people were involved.
Single-vehicle crashes remain one of the most dangerous types of roadway incidents, particularly on rural and suburban routes where lighting is limited and drivers may be traveling at higher speeds. Crashes involving fixed objects such as barriers often result in severe or fatal injuries due to the force of impact.
